Excited to share my recent experience working with bees at a ranch in Chico, California! I had the opportunity to work alongside a UC Davis honey bee researcher and other beekeepers as we tended to the hives and discussed Terra Vera, an innovative solution for controlling mites in honey bees.
Mites are a major issue for honey bees, and currently, beekeepers use oxalic acid soaked sponges to control them. The acid gets into the feet of the mites and slowly causes them to leave the hive. However, this process takes time, and mites can transmit diseases to the larva, resulting in deformities and shorter lifespans for bees, which ultimately impacts honey production.
That’s where Terra Vera comes in. The promise of Terra Vera is that it eliminates mites faster, helping to keep the bees healthier. During my time at the ranch, we discussed the value proposition of Terra Vera and how it can revolutionize mite control in beekeeping.
Stay tuned as we test out Terra Vera in the fall when mite infestation is at its worst and treatments are commonly done. I’m looking forward to seeing the results firsthand and sharing my findings with the beekeeping community.
